Count Alcibiad Zecca already had a long, rich tradition in viticulture when he began his winemaking business in 1935.  After all, his ancestors began growing vineyards on their estate when they arrived in Puglia in 1500.  Five centuries later, the family is carrying on the tradition by producing high quality wines while adapting to modern winemaking practices.

Terra is produced from 70% negramaro and 30% aglianico.  Both of these varieties thrive in hot and dry Mediterranean climates, which are the typical conditions in Leverano D.O.C. within Italy’s southern “boot heel” region of Puglia. The alluvium and limestone soil is also a factor, which provides a nice canvas for low magnesium/ high quality wines.

Terre spent 14 months in the barrel and 3 months in the bottle before it was ready to be released.  It has aged wonderfully and is ready to drink now.  This is a full-bodied wine with berries and spice, and it should be consumed with hearty food or aged cheeses.
