2011 Verbena Toscana Rosso IGT
Our Price:
$17.99
Producer: Verbena
Vintage: 2011
Region: Toscana
Sub-Region: Rosso di Montalcino DOC
Varietal: Sangiovese (80%)
Merlot (10%) Cabernet Sauvignon (10%) Color: Red
In Montalcino, the local Consorzio has limited growth so that you cannot flood the market with Brunello di Montalcino or Rosso di Montalcino and dilute the brand. If you want to, you have to pay someone in the region to rip up their vineyards. Plus the EU will not allow anyone to plant more grapes unless others rip theirs out.
What does all of the bureaucracy mean? It means that Luca Nannetti at Verbena cannot increase his production of Brunello or Rosso, but he has got more land and grapes. Enter the IGT, the label for Italian wines that do not conform to the regional rules. Nannettis Verbena IGT Rosso Toscano is 80% Sangiovese from the same vineyard his Rosso and Brunello come from, and not lesser selections either, with 10% each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is aged in stainless and is boldly rich and smooth, with lots of ripe cassis and cherry fruit. Drinkable now, and particularly good with spicy grilled sausage.

Ageing: Two months on lees in steel, after 3 months of aging in bottle.
2011 Villa Pillo Syrah
Our Price:
$17.99
Producer: Villa Pillo Vintage: 2011 Region: Toscana Varietal: Syrah (100%) Color: Red Villa Pillo is a traditional Tuscan Farm, founded in medieval times, mentioned in many historical documents. It is located in the heart of the Chianti area, an equal distance from the cities of Pisa, Florence and Siena. We consider all of the Villa Pillo wines at the Enoteca extraordinary values! In the rolling hills of central Tuscany, the Syrah grape produces wines that combine body and elegance with a distinct hint of black pepper and other spices. The Villa Pillo Syrah is grown in three vineyards. The vines are trained on a vertical trellis to allow management of growing shoots and favor the development of color and flavor in the grapes. This Syrah is harvested at the peak of ripeness to enhance these classic traits. It is then aged in small French oak barrels for 15 months. The Villa Pillo Syrah expresses itself as a wine with a deep dark color, aromas which combine notes of leather, blackberry, chocolate and white pepper. Flavors are firm and broad but have a degree of suppleness, which makes the wine very drinkable, even when young. We recommend this wine with grilled meats, roasts and flavorful pasta dishes.

Vertical trellising with foliage catchwires supporting the annual vine growth ensures the maximum exposure of the grapes to both sun and air movement. These elements help the development of both healthy and flavorful grapes. Manual operations of removing surplus shoots and leaves and careful selection at the moment of harvest further enhance quality. Tuscanys hot summers in August ensure that Merlot is our first variety to be harvested in early September. Picked at the peak of ripeness to accentuate its fruitiness, this wine was then aged in small oak barrels to enhance its balance. This Merlots flavors of ripe dark fruits such as plum, blueberry and cherry are further broadened by aging in small barrels for 12-15 months in the Villa Pillo Cellar. We recommend this wine with all roasts or grilled foods and any flavorful pasta like one with tomatoes or eggplant.

Our Price:
$19.99
Grapes: Syrah 90% – Alicante (Grenache, Alicante bouschet) 10%. The percentage may vary slightly according to the vintage. Vines: young (10 yrs old) vineyards located in the Comune di Scansano (Podere Keeling) and the Comune di Grosseto (Podere Adua). Mediterranean climate, mild winters and hot, dry and sunny springs and summers. Vinification: fermented and matured in stainless steel, temperature controlled vats. Notes: There are two kinds of grapes called Alicante in Maremma, one is the Grenache, with its floral and red berry flavors and pale ruby red color; the other is Alicante bouschet, a cross made by the Swiss plant breeder Bouschet in the 1850s between Grenache and the teintourier variety Petit bouschet. The color here is much darker, almost ink color, because the flash of the grape is not white like in most of the red variety but purple red (hence the name teintourier, given to this sort of varieties). Syrah and Alicante both benefit from sunny and warm climate, such as the one that is found in the Maremma, and produce intense, medium to full bodied spicy wines, with notes of pepper, elderflower, cloves, cassis, blackcurrant, herbs, reminiscent of the Mediterranean strong flavors. Yes, drink it now, can hold 2 to 3 years in bottle. Wine Spectator, 90 Points, Wine Advocate, 90 Points

It is related to the Cannonau of Sardinia, the Grenache of France and Garnacha in Spain, but in the Province of Vicenza it has found its own specific identity, thereby expressing the typical characteristics of its region of origin.
Its ruby red colour is redolent of
passion
: that of the vine-growers who have always believed in and grown the grapes of this variety and whose wisdom and dedication have, over time, given it the prestige it enjoys today. It is a wine with a wide-ranging bouquet, varying from cherries to raspberries, and one which seduces ones palate with its freshness and delicacy. It is light, appealing and versatile, making it an ideal wine for convivial occasions. It goes particularly well with moderately rich pasta and rice dishes and is a perfect match for Sopressa Vicentina D.O.P. (salami) and Prosciutto Veneto Berico-Euganeo D.O.P. (cured ham).
There is also a more intense and deeply-structured style of Tai Rosso. The Consortium for Wines from the Colli Berici and Vicenza has sought to promote this version by means of the Tocai Rosso Riserva project. This wine maintains all the finesse and elegance of the grape variety during its long period of maturation. Many producers have adhered to this project and are now enjoying the results of their efforts. From the 2009 vintage onwards, Tai Rosso Riserva has been inserted into the new production regulations.

Vintage: 2010
Region: Lombardia
Sub-Region: Valtellina Superiore
Varietal: Nebbiolo (100%)
Color: Red
This beautiful Nebbiolo goes through fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 2 weeks with maceration for 9 days then it goes through a malolactic fermentation and then aging for 12 months in barriques. Tar and roses are the two descriptors most associated with this red grape grown, almost solely, in northern Italys Piemonte region. It can be characterized by by the soft and velvety tannins, high acidity, with cherry and raspberry fruit, and truffle aromas and flavors, Nebbiolo has rightfully earned its reputation as an outstandingly elegant wine. Sadly the late-ripening varietal is quite delicate and is prone to disease as well as damage by hail that frequently pelts the region. Outside of Barolo and Barbaresco, Nebbiolo is grown in the DOCs of Gattinara, Spanna and Ghemme. The Nebbiolos of the Nebbiolo D Alba DOC in the southeastern part of Piedmont are generally lighter and more immediately approachable versions of the grape, aged for less time than Barolo and Barbaresco, which also makes them less expensive. Langhe Nebbiolos are generally made from declassified fruit from the aforementioned regions of Barolo, Barbaresco and Nebbiolo D Alba.

Often called Greco in limited plantings near Ghemme and Gattinara, east of Caluso, and thought to be a relaive of the Fiano grape variatel found in central and southern Italy. The Erbaluce grape makes a remarkably fresh and balanced white, the La Rustia is a reference to the roasted slopes where the grapes are grown (as in the place/name/appellation Cote Rotie, which denotes roasted slope, the ideal exposure of these vineyards allows the grapes to achieve remarkable richness). Erbaluce di Caluso, or simply Caluso, is a classified wine making zone found in the north-western Piemonte region of Italy. The wines from this area are produced in 33 communes in the province of Turin, with Caluso as its center. The Erbaluce grape from which the wine is made takes its name from the goddess Albaluce, whose realm was Caluso. Erbaluce di Caluso is the bianco secco (dry white) version, with aromas reminiscent of meadow flowers. It is characteristically dry with a distinguishable acidity but has a well-rounded structure, making it an excellent partner to hors doeuvres and fish. It is particularly well suited to tench (a freshwater fish) and marinated trout, as well as mocetta (the dried, spiced meat of chamois). Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Award Winner

Our Price:
$25.99
Producer: Podere Ruggeri Corsini
Vintage: 2012
Region: Piemonte
Sub-Region: Barolo DOCG
Varietal: Nebbiolo (100%)
Color: Rose
The Podere Ruggeri Corsini Winery was founded in 1995 thanks to a passion for the countryside and great wines. Loredana Addari and Nicola Argamante, both graduated in Agriculture and specialized in wine-growing and enology, decided to change their lives, leaving their city jobs to buy a small farm business (which at the time only produced and sold its grapes) in Monforte D Alba, in the heart of the Langhe, Cuneo. The vineyard covers a surface of about half a hectare (0.4), is 420 meters above sea level, facing east; and the soil is very calcerous. The vines are vertically trellised, pruned the Guyot way, and the density is of 4500 plants per hectare, planted in 2003. The average final production is of about 6000 0.75 lt bottles. Vinification begins after a manual harvest in crates, with immediate crushing. After the cold maceration (6-8 degrees) and the racking have occurred, follow the cold clarification, the temperature-controlled fermentation at around 16 degrees, as well as decanting. After six months of standing in stainless-steel vats, the wine is then bottled in March. This delightful Rosato (Rose) will surprise you with it`s delicate salmon color, lovely snap, and mouthwatering crispness on the mid palate and finish. The Langhe DOC Rosato is a typically summer wine, fresh and soothing, and can be aged for up to two years. It is best served at a temperature between eight and ten degrees and is ideal as an aperitif, but can also be paired with shellfish, starters and first courses, and any fish-based dishes.
2013 Canevel Vadobbiadone Vigneto del Fae Dosaggio Zero
Our Price:
$25.99
2013 finally gifted us with one of the best harvests in years: grapes harvested in September, were perfectly healthy with good balance between sugar and acidity. A great harvest indeed. Such prerequisites allowed us to produce a very dry sparkling wine that maintains the same length and depth of wines with higher sugar content. Dozaggio zero literally means zero dosage as in no added sugar! This is the origin of our Valdobbiadene DOCG Dosaggio Zero Vigneto del Fae: careful assessment of grapes in the vineyard and the usual great mastery of Roberto De Lucchi in the wine cellar. Prosecco is a fresh, refined wine. Perfect as an aperitif, be it informal or elegant, it also fits many other pairings, from traditional local dishes to modern and international cuisine. Many ingredients can be deliciously combined with this dry Prosecco, summer products such as the radicchio salad, white asparagus, mushrooms and wild herbs, cheeses, cold cuts, raw and cooked fish, and delicate desserts.

PoggioargentiarA Ciliegiolo Maremma Toscana Rosso 2011
Our Price:
$26.99
Ciliegiolo is a red grape variety of central and north-western Italy, something of an obscurity in recent decades but now undergoing a renaissance in Liguria and its spiritual home, Tuscany. It is now used increasingly in the red wines of several western Italian DOCs and number of varietal IGT wines made from Ciliegiolo has increased considerably since 2000. The grapes name comes from an Italian word for cherry, a fruit which Ciliegiolo wines resemble both in color and aroma. It is this character which has prompted the vines renaissance, as the variety brings a certain freshness and lively character to otherwise heavy wines. In a world which increasingly demands early-drinking wines but which are nonetheless full of character, Ciliegiolo grapes have provided an excellent addition to wines that would otherwise need cellaring. Made from 100% Ciliegiolo, this wine does not age in wood and is gorgeous dark cherry color. Explosive freshness on the nose, with notes of black cherry and marasca. Consistent on the palate, with masses of cherry and ripe fruits, fresh and appealing. Wine Spectator, 90 Points, Wine Advocate, 90 Points

Vintage: 2010
Region: Marche DOC
Color: White
Varietal: Verdicchio (100%)
The Meridia, made from 100% Verdicchio grapes, harvested just at their ripeness to preserve all the acidic heritage of the must. The wine is then over ripened in the cellar, in old glassed concrete tanks; it is the time that works to create the maximum sensory profile of the wine. If stones could have a flavor, then it would be that of Meridia, a mineral, savory, acidic, long, full-bodied, goldish-yellow wine. We suggest matching it with semi-aged cheeses, elaborated fish recipes, well structured pastas, white meats or as a long night aperitif wine. It is an important wine for people who love to take their time and really romance the wine.

They decided to plant Montepulciano, Aglianico, and Petite Verdot, and to join forces with the number one winemaker in Italy to produce their wines. Frauma is a ruby red wine with purplish reflections. The delicate and balanced scent with initial reminders of berries and sweet spices, it is sustained well by more lively aromas that evoke tobacco, mint and leather, accented with a balsamic hint. Tasty and strong at first, it becomes warm and balanced, able to excite in a long finish with a dynamic elegance. Tonneaux and bottle aged for 16 months. Enjoy this wine with delicate pastas and risotto, first courses, and white meats. Gambero Rosso "Tre Bicchieri Award Winner

From old vines in the heart of Monteforte and aged for 18 months in new and neutral barrels and 3 months in the bottle before its release date, this is a spectacular Barbera superiore. The vineyard covers a surface of about half a hectare (0.4), is 420 meters above sea level, facing east; and the soil is very calcerous. Bottling takes place in the month of July. Dark ripe fruit sensations, soft plums and dark chocolate notes. Warm and rich structure that unfolds within velvety tannins. 2011 Cascina Morassino Morassino Barbaresco
Our Price:
$33.99
Producer: Cascina Morassino
Vintage: 2011
Region: Piemonte
Sub-Region: Barbaresco DOCG
Varietal: Nebbiolo (100%)
Color: Red
An elegant and silky textured example of a fine Barbaresco! Lovely cherry flavors predominate with hints of chocolate and floral undertones. The tannin structure is fine but firm with the added complexity of spicy oak. Run by Roberto Bianco and called a winery to watch, Cascina Morassino is one of the oldest producers of Barbaresco yet manages to slip largely under the radar. With a total of only 3.5 ha of vines in production, this cuvee comes from the tiny but prestigious Ovello vineyard, an area primarily owned by Gaja. Its the longer lived (and perhaps more modern) of the two cuvees produced here, having been aged in barrique and with greater density of fruit. Voluptuous fruit abounds in this incredible wine - bright morello cherry, plum, and red currant radiate from a background of darker fruit, with dark notes of tar and licorice as well as lifted notes of rose and spicy oak. The tannins are incredible - certainly present, as one would expect from such a young Nebbiolo, but they are so fine and so well handled that the wine almost manages to be approachable in its infancy. It is seductive, it is long, it will give immense pleasure at so many different stages of its life. Barbaresco all too often gets overlooked in favor of Barolo, but this deserves a place in everyones cellar. Barbaresco Morassino is a bright-brooding wine with tones of tobacco and smoked cedar backed by black olive and mature fruit. There is some tight astringency on the finish that will soften with time. 2011 Le Filigare Lorenzo Chianti Classico
Our Price:
$34.99
Producer: Le FIligare Vintage: 2011 Region: Toscana Sub-Region: Chianti Classico DOCG Varietal: Sangiovese (100%) Color: Red Aged in French barrels for twelve months and then in bottle for four months, this wine is an intense ruby red color. It has aromas of berries, spice and vanilla. It is very balanced with a great finish, and it would match wonderfully with grilled red meats, beef, sheep and fowl.
Chianti Classico is the heartland of the Chianti wine region – its traditional and longest-established viticultural area. The term classico is used in this way in several Italian wine regions (Orvieto and Valpolicella, for example), although Chianti is almost certainly the most famous example. This fame is due not just to the high quality of the wines, but also to the classico zones iconic Tuscan landscape and winemaking traditions. The typical Chianti Classico wine is a ruby-red, Sangiovese-based wine with aromas of violets and cherries and a hint of earthy spice.
Bottles of Chianti Classico wine are marked by the DOCGs black cockerel logo. While this symbol has a clear practical application (setting the wines visually apart from standard Chianti), it also has a romanticized and much-told history. Legend has it that, in the 13th Century, the warring provinces of Florence and Sienna found a novel way to solve their ongoing border disputes. They agreed to a race; when the first cockerel crowed at dawn, each city would send out its fastest rider bound for the rival city. Where the two riders met would mark the new provincial boundary. However, the cunning Florentines gained a head start by starving their (black) cockerel to make him sing earlier, weighting the outcome in Florences favor. The modern-day Chianti Classico viticultural area now covers almost all land between Sienna and Florence, buffered at each end by the Colli Fiorentini and Colli Senesi production zones.

The pallet is dense, soft and very rich, with elegant tannins that become more frequent with the precious taste texture from the long lasting aroma. Producer: Cascina Morassino Vintage: 2009 Region: Piemonte Sub-Region: Barbaresco DOCG Varietal: Nebbiolo (100%) Color: Red An elegant and silky textured example of a fine Barbaresco! It is the longer lived (and perhaps more modern) of the two cuvees produced here, having been aged in barrique and with greater density of fruit. There is some tight astringency on the finish that will soften with time. by M.L.
The 2009 vintage has been kind to Cascina Morassino. This bright Barbaresco opens with plump aromas of ripe fruit and cherry, showing both dense extraction and impressive aromatic intensity. Silky and long, it represents the best of the Nebbiolo grape.

2005 Lelusi Aglianico del Vulture
Our Price:
$36.99
Producer: Lelusi
Vintage: 2005
Region: Basilicata
Sub-Region: Aglianico del Vulture DOC
Varietal: Aglianico del Vulture (100%)
Lelusi created this wine to stand out from the other Aglianicos on the market. The creative process involved a long maceration period of the must with the skins. After fermentation, the wine was put into the new French oak barriques to undergo malolactic, or secondary fermentation. Once the malolactic fermentation was completed, the wine was transferred once again into additional new lightly toasted French oak barriques. Their goal in this process was to enhance a purer, cleaner wine where the typical characteristics and aromatic components of Aglianico del Vulture can be preserved with their natural tannins instead of the extreme contrast from the tannins of the barrique. In this way, they create an equilibrium between tradition and modernity is reached. The wine is dark ruby red color with dark fruit, spicy, and balsamic aromas. The taste is full-bodied with a complex structure and persistence. This is not a wine you will want to drink by itself. Pair with lamb, game, and strong cheese.

Our Price:
$38.99
Producer: Corte Rugolin
Vintage: 2007
Region: Veneto
Sub-Region: Valpolicella
Varietal: Corvina (40%), Corvinone (20%), Rondinella (20%), and other native grapes (20%)
Color: Red
Amarones are made when the grapes are picked mid September in whole clusters before Botrytis sets in. The clusters are then placed on drying mats, and their sugar content is carefully monitored while the grapes dry out. This Amarone, Crosara del le Strie, is made in January when the grapes have lost between 35-40% of their original weight. It is then aged for 18 months in barrique and 6 months in the bottle before it is released. The term amaro means bitter, but you will see, this full-bodied, velvety, berry-full wine is anything but! Richly textured and deeply intense, this special Amarone opens with layered tones of smoke, cherry, ripe fruit, plum and leather. But, there is also a focused, pristine quality here that really pulls it all together. Wine Enthusiast, 92 Points
2007 Romanelli Sagrantino di Montefalco

$39.99
Producer: Romanelli
Vintage: 2007
Region: Umbria
Sub-Region: Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG
Varietal: Sagrantino (100%)
Color: Red
Umbria like Tuscany has a natural beauty. This one comes from Umbrias own Sagrantino grape known for its masculinity and tannin. The Romanelli vineyards sit on sand and clay soils in the San Clemente area of Montefalco, at a slight elevation. This 100% Sagrantino was hand-harvests and sorted, with a prolonged maceration time to maximize extraction of pigment and tannin. The lots fermented separately, aged for 18 months in large French oak barrels, and then blended, filtered and laid to rest bottle for an additional ten months for the many components of the wine to come together prior to release. The 2007 is as almost opaque in color, with intense, dark fruit aromas and flavors and robust tannins. This brooding and delicious wine is growing increasingly complex with age. Enjoy with robust winter foods like roast boar, lamb or red meat. Wine Enthusiast, 88 Points

Producer: Terre Del Principe
Vintage: 2009
Region: Campania
Sub-Region: Terre del Volturno
Varietal: Pallagrello Nero (100%)

The name Ambruco is a linguistic contamination of vitis labrusca - wild vine. There is a place near Castel Campagnano of the same name, where centuries-old wild vines used to grow. Local peasants considered them almost holy because of their age. Crafted from 100% Pallagrello Nero, this wine is powerful and elegant with a full body and a deep ruby color. The nose of balsam emerges after an extensive sequence of notes reminiscent of wild berries, but also green pepper and chocolate. The taste is harmonious with very balanced tannins. The aromatic persistence is very long and slowly fades into a trail spiced with flavors of blackberries and blueberries. Wine Enthusiast, 89 Points, Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Award Winner

2005 Conti Zecca Nero
Our Price:
$39.99
Producer: Conti Zecca
Vintage: 2005
Region: Puglia
Varietal: Negroamaro (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%)
Color: Red
Nero, made from 70% Negroamaro and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, was born by an intuition of the Zecca brothers who, in the Eighties, decided to introduce and taste on their own wine estates selected clones of Cabernet Sauvignon. Nero was commercialized for the first time in 1999 with the vintage 1997. The vintage 1998 was a great success, and the wine experts immediately looked at this red wine of Puglia as a novelty in the oenological regional and national outline for the combination between an Apulian native vine (Negroamaro) and an international vine (Cabernet Sauvignon) that made it one of the best red wines in Puglia. Nero spends 18 months in new French barriques, 12 months in 30 hl. oak barrels and 6 months refined in bottle. It is an intense ruby red color with pleasant garnet highlights. The aromas are of tiny red fruit and spices with hints of vanilla and liquorice. The taste is soft and harmonic with matured tannins in a rich well structured body. The finish is persistent and makes this wine very good with pasta with meat or spiced sauces, roasted or grilled red meats and matured cheeses. A gorgeous blend of Cabernet and Negroamaro, this is one of Puglias best red wines. The Cabernet element adds accents of spice and blackberry and the Negroamaro grounds the robust wine to its territory. The tannins are tight and firm and suggest that Nero could do with a few years of bottle aging. Wine Enthusiast, 93 Points, Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Award Winner

Color: emerald green.
Taste: medium-strong, slightly piquant particularly when freshly pressed.
Aroma: fruity, with an intense fragrance and aromatic notes of artichoke, fresh grass, green olives and walnuts.

Vintage: 2003
Region: Puglia
Varietal: Negroamaro (70%), Aglianico (30%)
Color: Red
Count Alcibiad Zecca already had a long, rich tradition in viticulture when he began his winemaking business in 1935. After all, his ancestors began growing vineyards on their estate when they arrived in Puglia in 1500. Five centuries later, the family is carrying on the tradition by producing high quality wines while adapting to modern winemaking practices. Terra is produced from 70% Negramaro grapes and 30% Aglianico grapes. Both of these varietals thrive in hot and dry Mediterranean climates, which are the typical conditions in Leverano D.O.C. within Italys southern boot heel region of Puglia. The alluvium and limestone soil is also a factor, which provides a nice canvas for low magnesium/ high quality wines. The Terra spent 14 months in the barrel and 3 months in the bottle before it was ready to be released. It has aged wonderfully and is ready to drink now. This is a full-bodied wine with berries and spice, and it should be consumed with hearty food or aged cheeses. Wine Enthusiast, 90 Points

Producer: La Fortuna Vintage: 2008
Region: Toscana Sub-Region: Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Varietal: Sangiovese (100%) Color: Red Ruby red tending to light burgundy red.The bouquet reminds of intense graphite, rust, morello cherry dipped in chocolate, mint, dry hay, violet in the nose. Taste satisfies the olfactory pleasure lavishing sensations of black truffle, violet, liquorice and plum. Wine with a rich alcoholic content and as much freshness with wide tannin, initially velvety and then ending a bit dry, as fully characterized by the vine. The Brunello di Montalcino after being harvested in mid September is then fermented for two weeks by thermoconditioning and unleavening with 25 days contact with the skins. It is aged for 40 months in Slavonian oak, and then 10 months bottle aging before being released onto market. La Fortuna is medium-bodied, with a long aromatic persistence. Licorice and fresh plum aftertaste. Tobacco and spice aromas give way to sweet, juicy cherry, raspberry and mineral in this elegant, well-defined red. The tannins are solid yet balanced, and the finish just keeps coming with sweet fruit and spice notes. Best from 2016 through 2032, Wine Spectator, 93 Points. This is a muscular wine with sweet-blackberry fruit upfront, followed by clove, cinnamon, toasted nut, tobacco and leather. The texture is layered and rich with loads of chocolate and ripe fruit that renders a soft, ripe touch to the finish. Wine Enthusiast, 91 Points. This wine take its name from the vineyard of Manuela Piancastelli in Beneficio di Castel Campagnano, facing Mount Taburno. It began as a challenge to create a great wine for meditation from the grapes of Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia. Every vintage the label is painted for us by a different artist, and in 2010 it was painted by Thomas Volpatti. This wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels and 18 months in bottles. The color is a dark red with ruby reflections. On the nose there are dried plums, blackberrys, chocolate and black pepper flavors, made more sophisticated by very light oriental fragrances of incense. In the mouth this wine is mellow and fresh, with the Casavecchias tannins balanced by the Pallagrello Nero and with a long lasting finish. This inky blend of Pallagrello Nero and Casavecchia (two of the oldest grape varieties in Italy) opens with opulent aromas of chocolate, exotic spice, dark fruit, cola and cinnamon. It is smooth and rich on the palate but the wine also imparts a high dose of sweetness and succulence that would work well next to rare beef. Our Price:
$48.99
Producer: Feudo Di San Maurizio
Vintage: 2009
Region: Val D Aosta DOC
Varietal: Vuillermin (100%)
Color: Red
This is a silky and delicate wine with a light, elegant body produced from the very rare Vuillerman grapes from Val D Aosta. Feudo Di San Maurizio only makes 1000 bottles. If you get a bottle you are a very lucky person. First documented under the name Vuillermin in 1890, the grape was virtually extinct until it was discovered by ampelographers at the Institut Agricole Regional of Aosta growing in isolated vineyards in communes of Chatillon and Pontey. In 2011, DNA analysis showed that Vuillermin was the offspring of Fumin. Vuillermin is a promising indigenous variety, mostly used in blends, that was once much more widely planted throughout the Central Valley; Michel Vallet is currently the only producer making a 100% varietal version. His compelling 2010 displays a lovely, almost transparent dark brick-red color with auburn highlights. A sour-cherry aroma mingles with smoky touches of dried fig, porcini, and soy sauce. Full and weighty in the mouth, the wine has a firm, acidic grip, with ripe black-cherry fruit emerging on the mid-palate. It finishes sour, with just enough tannin to frame the whole.

This is a fantastic, full-bodied Brunello with ripe fruit, plum spice and blackberry characteristics. A silky tannin structure with a long, persistent finish. This big wine should only be paired with grilled meats or matured cheeses. Gorgeous aromas of dark fruits such as plums and raspberries. Full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a chocolate, vanilla and fruit aftertaste. Turns to roasted meat and berries. Intense and very long finish. Drink or hold. Much better than the 2006. James Suckling, 94 points, Here is a gorgeous wine with a deep, inky color and super extraction that is elegant but powerful at the same time. This is a balanced wine, but it is also an intense wine, with loads of ripe fruit, spice and tobacco. It feels smooth and rich, with a finely crafted texture that is velvety and supple. Wine Enthusiast, 94 points, The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is a big, full-bodied wine bursting with fruit and sheer energy. Plums, black cherries, licorice, French oak, smoke and tar emerge from this nicely articulated Brunello. The 2007 loses just a touch of persistence on the finish. Otherwise, this is a fine effort. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2024. Medium red. Slightly roasted, high-toned aromas of red berry liqueur, black cherry, licorice, smoke and leather. Plump, sweet and already quite expressive, with a very ripe cherry flavor complicated by coffee and mocha notes and a suggestion of marzipan. Finishes with sweet tannins. In a plush style, for drinking over the next ten years. Stephen Tanzers International Wine Cellar, 89 points

2006 Antonelli Chiusa di Pannone Sagrantino
Our Price:
$54.99
Chiusa is made from Antonellis paramount Sagrantino di Montefalco, made from the best selection massale grafts on rootstock. This wine is stored in lightly toasted barrels for 6 months, then in oak barrels for 15 months, with clarification in cement vats for 3 months, and lastly, aged in the bottle for two years. This is a very tannic and rustic wine, that will pair ideally with red meats and heartier dishes. Deep ruby. Explosive aromas of sweet, ripe red cherry, chocolate-covered plum, violet, and cappuccino. Enters rich and suave, then turns somewhat more austere, offering lovely purity to its red fruit and sweet baking spice flavors. Displays lovely balance for a Sagrantino with the Antonelli-signature silky tannins and great length. Very well done. This wine is ruby red tending to light burgundy red. The bouquet is reminicent of intense graphite, rust, morello cherry dipped in chocolate, mint, dry hay, and violet. The taste satisfies the olfactory pleasure lavishing sensations of black truffle, violet, liquorice and plum. Wine with a rich alcoholic content and as much freshness with wide tannin, initially velvety and then ending a bit dry, as fully characterized by the vine. The wine dithers between alcohol and freshness but at the end freshness prevails. Medium-bodied, with a long aromatic persistence and a liquorice and fresh plum aftertaste. The La Fortuna 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is especially beautiful in this vintage. The wine is remarkable for its density, richness and concentration, all of which have been achieved while maintaining clarity and freshness. The French oak is beautifully integrated in this sumptuous, generous Brunello. Suggestions of flowers and spices add notes of brightness on the finish. The Brunello spent a whopping 40 months in 25-hectoliter medium-sized casks prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. Wine Advocate, 92 Points. La Fortuna shows beautiful balance with pretty mineral nuances that stay delicately in the background of black fruit, wild berries, new leather and licorice. The Cannubi Boschis hill is where these two different types of soil merge, and this is why the Cannubi cru has become so famous, combining as it does the elegance of one with the power of the other.
