Avi is the premier Sangiovese offering from San Patrignano. They select half of their best Sangiovese vines, which are trained in the guyot method with further selection on the sorting table, to go into this wine. The wine is aged in large oak barrels for months, and then aged for at least 18 months in the bottle before it is released. The goal is to produce a wine that is the best expression of Sangiovese in the area. Considering Avi received the Tre Bicchieri award seven times in the past ten years (including a Tre Bicchieri Plus for this particular vintage), it is fair to say the goal is reached!

Such an important wine should have a special dedication. “Avi” is short for “A Vicenzo”, which means “For Vicenzo”. Vicenzo Muccioli is the founder of the San Patrignano community, which includes the winery, farm, nursery, and more. Since 1978, San Patrignano has welcomed and rehabilitated over 18,000 socially marginalized individuals and drug addicts by financially supporting their recovery and educating them in a multitude of areas. We strongly suggest you look at their website. They are a truly impressive, nationally recognized community.
