Montepirolo 2016 is a lovely red wine blends produced in a Bordeauxesque
style, this wine is made mainly of Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 10%Cabernet Franc,
from biodynamic vineyards on the hills of Coriano in Emilia Romagna. One doesn’t often encounter a wine with such a flowery nose, with
perfumes of lilac, lavender and wisteria. The fruity and spicy tones are
perceptible only later with the dominance of eucalyptus, dried prunes, and pepper. The Cabernet Sauvignon is responsible for the powerful
body with pronounced tannins, though nicely balanced by a juicy
acidity. This wine is for people liking full-bodied wines, tending on the
rustic side.
Montepirolo wine is the result of a well-balanced assemblage of the wine from three grape varieties vinified separately. After racking off, the wine is
transferred to barrique where the assemblage takes place. Complete malolactic fermentation after skin-contact maceration at a controlled temperature for 3 weeks, the wine
is aged in barrique
for 24 months, and 18 months in the bottle. The palate is
round and lovely, with a fantastic structure, smooth and velvety tannins, and a long delicious finish. Pair it with
stewed meats and sauces, roasted lamb, and risotto.
