Nocera is a high-quality, red-wine grape variety native to Sicily. Its best-known incarnation is perhaps in the red wines of Faro DOC where it is blended with Nerello Cappuccio and Nerello Mascalese. Varietal examples are rare.
Nocera is able to retain good acidity even in the scorching Sicilian heat. It has prominent tannins, thanks to its thick-skinned berries, which make for structured wines with serious palate weight. High alcohol is fairly common in Nocera wines, which commonly have an intense yet elegant bouquet of dark fruit flavors, leather and spice.
