The south-facing vineyard called Il Glicine extends over 1 hectare in Sasella at the altitude of 470 meters, in the municipality of Sondrio. This vineyard is composed of sandy soil and loam. "Glicine" is the Italian word for wisteria, as this colorful plant clings to the rocky crags that dominate the entire plot. This terrific Nebbiolo goes through fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 2 weeks with maceration for 6 days. Afterwards, it goes through malolactic fermentation and then aging for 12 months in barriques. The most aromatic and beautiful wine of Sandro Fay, it offers a full range of intense aromas from blueberries, cherries and blackberries through to chocolate, coffee, and black pepper. It is soft and elegant at first but has a little bit of tannin to follow with a long finish . Try with lighter meals, roasted chicken or creamy pasta.
The 2016 Valtellina Superiore Sassella Il Glicine is a subdued and delicate red wine with elegant aromas of rosebud, cassis, and wild blueberry. There is a spicy touch of crushed white pepper that adds complexity at the back. Fruit for this wine comes from a vineyard located some 470 meters above sea level. This is a mid-weight red with lasting substance and freshness. "
