Ciliegiolo is a red grape variety of central
and north-western Italy, which is undergoing a renaissance in Liguria
and Tuscany,
where it is mostly used in fabulous blends with Sangiovese.
The grape’s name comes
from “ciliegia”,
the Italian
word for cherry, a fruit which Ciliegiolo
resembles both in color and aroma. Made from 100% Ciliegiolo,
this wine has
a
gorgeous
light color. At first, the bouquet reminds you of an old cellar, followed by
explosive freshness
and
notes of
black cherry.
Consistent
and
dry on the
palate,
it has flavors of ripe fruits and very soft tannins,
with a long finish. This fresh and appealing wine is full of
character, and is a perfect pairing for lighter pasta
dishes,
cold
cuts,
cheeses,
and seafood.
