This
full bodied red offers complex notes of ripe fruits and berries along side more
savory notes of wood and leather coming through with age. Capatosta (meaning
stubborn or hard headed) is a fine Morellino consisting of Sangiovese(85%),
Ciliegiolo(10%), and Alicante(5%). The grapes come from 40-year-old vines on
the coastal hills of southern Tuscany, Maremma, offering a new experience for
fans of the Sangiovese varietal. In the glass it is a rich and deep burgundy
red. The nose offers up aromas of leather, black cherries and violet. The
Palate is rich and layered with dark berries, cherry, tobacco and an underlying
spiciness balanced by robust tannins and bright acidity. Try pairing it with
Red Meats, Meat Pasta Dishes, Aged Cheeses and Pizza.
We
recommend decanting this wine for 30 minutes before enjoying.
