Description

The Vescovi family has been tending vines and farming apple orchards in the Piana Rotaliana area of Trentino since the XVIII century. Mention of the De Vescovi and their feuds is found in chronicles from the XVII century, and an eponymous fortress towers over the village of Mezzacorona, making for an eloquent proof of the familys deep-rooted origins. Teroldego is the regions finest native red wine grape, to produce robust, richly colored reds with a layered bouquet of crushed blackcurrants.

Teroldego grapes are handpicked the first week of October and fermented into open wooden vats with ambient yeasts. Maceration on the skins last for 8 days. The wine matures in a mix of Slavonian oak casks and stainless steel tanks for 15 months prior to bottling and release on the market.

This medium body wine has the aromas of dark berry fruit, on the nose with floral and mineral hints which continue onto the palate. Well balanced with a pleasing taste of almond on the finish. Pairs well with, roasted bird , mushrooms and pastas with cheese.

Tried these two over the last few days
1. DeVescovi Ulzbach Dd'OC,  Teroldego Rotaliano 13%
Very dark color very strong plummy black cherry cola blackberry Tero light earthy slight loamy slight floral aromatic lilacs bit licorice/pungent lovely nose bit soft somewhat rich lush very strong Tero plummy black cherry cola licorice blackberry slight earthy loamy slight floral/lilacs classic Tero flavor w/ modest ripe tannins; very long/lingering black cherry licorice bit pungent fairly rich/lush finish with modest ripe tannins a solid square wine that speaks strongly of Teroldego, not the high-toned character of a Foradori but one of the better Teroldegos I can recall; this is how MikeOfficer would make Teroldego in the RotalianoPlain if he could quite a nice Teroldego for a good price.
