WS 96
An incredible new wine from Gioia Cresti. Fabulous on the nose, with dense dark spicy fruits and smoky, with layers of supple, plentiful tannin at the wine’s base. Mouth-filling, dense spicy fruit, Full-bodied, lush and rounded, with voluptuous volume of fruit. Modest acid balance, with velvety tannins and a long, fruity finish. There's a lovely richness and slight decadence to this fabulous wine.  Aged for 20 months in barrel and 8 months in bottle, Best after 2011.Only 500 cases made.

Super Tuscan Wines

In the early 1980’s, the Tuscany subregion Chianti Classicos struggled to gain notoriety in the Italian wine marketplace. Producers in the area felt restricted in their ability to make a great wine under the “Chianti Classico” regulations, which required that at least 70% Sangiovese be used. They wanted to use other grapes but still have strong branding in the area. This is how the “Super Tuscan” was born.

Super Tuscan is not an officially recognized style of wine by the Italian government, but it is widely accepted as a Bordeaux-style wine from Italy’s region of Tuscany. This red Tuscan is made with the traditional Bordeaux grapes - Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, and most notably, Merlot. It’s a more modern style Merlot wine with a full body and powerful character.
