The
wine region of Franciacorta is located between Milan and Verona, and is distinguished
for wines of quality, rich aromas and originality of production style in Italy.
In the heart of Franciacorta, near the Iseo lake in a beautiful site formerly
inhabited by the monks of Cluny in Ceretto. The Bersi Serlini winery has been
passionately producing wine for three generations here. It is a site of peaceful
preserved nature as most of the vineyards are situated on the lakes of the Regional
Natural Reserve called Le Torbiere, which offers an uncontaminated and
protected environment for the grapes to grow. The quality of the wine is
derived from the exceptional Chardonnay grapes and the unique combination of natural
elements - geography, geology and climate- that constitute its terroir. The cold
mountain winds come down from the Alps to the Iseo Lake and meet hot
air from the Pianura Padana forming a fresh and vibrant microclimate, ideal for
providing the acidity the grape needs to thrive. The vines are divided into 35
hectares of Chardonnay, 4 ha. of Pinot Bianco, 1 ha. of Pinot Nero, 2 ha. of
respectively Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The choice to
cultivate almost exclusively Chardonnay grapes is a Bersi Serlini fundamental
step and a decision made to satisfy quality as opposed to quantity. Chardonnay
grants a maximum level of elegance and delicacy to the wine, and can challenge
any important Blanc de Blanc from Champagne.
