La Fortuna 2011 Brunello di Montalcino shows us the elegant and nuanced side of Sangiovese, which can be harnessed even in a challenging vintage like this. Despite the warm growing season, this wine has outstanding depth and precision. On the nose, a relaxed flow from the glass gives us aromas of dark cherry, rose petals, and wild berries, intertwined with lingering hints of earth, Tuscan balsamic herbs, licorice, sandalwood, and fresh leather, and a whiff of cellar floor lead the way. On the palate, it has plummy and juicy flavors and hints of coffee and white pepper, wrapped by assertive, solid, and dusty tannins. The texture grabs your attention: it is not dense, but energetic. This vintage is less fruity than usual: it is more complex and developed.
The word layered would be too simple for this enchanting wine!
Best from now to the next 10 years.
Pair it with red meat and venison.
