This is currently our premier Barolo, aged for 24 months in French oak, 45% new. It is aged for another year in the bottle before its release. San Giovanni is an intense ruby color with garnet. Fresh and vigorus, accompanied by fruity and spicy aromas. Right balance between acidity, tannin and structure, with good lingering finish and longevity that reflects the typical characteristics of the area of Monforte. This is an impressive wine from Gianfranco Alessandria that manages to be intense, complex and sophisticated at the same time. There is smoke, road tar, licorice, truffle, cedar and faded rose here that are enhanced by smooth tannins and a beautifully polished finish. Save this one in your cellar. Stephen Tanzer 90 Points, Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri Award Winner, Paolo Basso 93 point.Decanter 90 Points Pairs well with Grilled or Roasted Red Meats especially Lamb or Wild Boar yet it is versatile enough to handle Truffle Risotto or Pastas.
