Known in
the local dialect as “Derthona”, the Colli
Tortonesi
DOC of Piemonte
is located around the town of Tortona,
in
the eastern most part of Piemonte. Timorasso
is
an ancient native white varietal that was virtually extinct,
but it was revived by the renowned winemaker Walter Massa in
the 1980's.
Luigi Boveri
Derthona
is made
from 100% Timorasso
grown
in
the municipality
of Costa
Vescovato
on marly
calcareous vineyards. After temperature controlled fermentation, the wine is
aged on the lees for 12 months in pressure controlled stainless steel tanks,
and
refined
in the bottle for further 6 months before release.
This
phenomenal white has a golden yellow straw color.
The nose
is complex with aromas of ripe yellow peaches, citrus, and mineral notes. It
has flavors of stone and tropical fruits,
and
hints of wildflowers,
balanced
by light
acidity,
great minerality,
and
a lingering finish. Pair it
with
risotto,
fish,
white meat, bitter greens salads,
cheeses,
and vegetable pasta.
