In Montalcino it is said that Vagaggini knows Sangiovese like no one else!! The producer of some of the most notorious Brunellos of Tuscany, Paolo Vagaggini prides himself on his natural approach to wine making. "I try to bring out the maximum potential of the terroir, the grape our wine making philosophy and the distinct character of the owner" says Vagaggini. He works with over a third of vineyards in Montalcino and produces highly-respected and awarded Brunello. Lucky for us, he began his own label Amantis. A professionally crafted wine for a fraction of the price of his more well known wines.
60% Sangiovese, blended with a combination of Canaiolo, Colorino,
Merlot and Petit Verdot. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and
then aged for a few months in 2nd and 3rd passage French barriques. The
result is a wine full of rich fruit, soft and supple on the palate but
still with excellent acidity to balance it out. It is easy to drink by
itself, or with grilled meats, or with grilled Italian sausage.
This full bodied wine is balanced and silky and suits to every challenge. The Birbanera offers plenty of blueberry aromas, with hints of vanilla, featuring fine tannins and a lightly jammy finish.
